WA's next resource boom will be from the sun, the wind and the waves

With our long coastlines, windswept hills and sunbaked deserts, West Australians are well placed to lead the world in renewable energy. By combining our proven skills and innovation in resource development with our world-class natural energy resources, we could be supplying clean safe energy to the world while helping the environment at the same time!

Wind power is the fastest growing large-scale renewable energy source in Australia. In Western Australia there are a number of large-scale wind farms. These include the Collgar wind farm, which powers 125,000 homes, and the Walkaway facility, which produces renewable energy equivalent to taking 76,000 cars off the road.

Solar Energy in Western Australia is also growing. Australia’s first solar farm is under construction at Greenough River. The 150,000 advanced thin film Photo Voltaic modules will displace 25,000 tonnes greenhouse gas emissions every year, which is the equivalent of taking 5,000 cars off the road.

In the past six years, Western Australians have also installed over 150 megawatts of small -scale solar systems on their homes, helping them to offset their energy costs and securing Western Australia’s day time energy needs.
